Guest posting still works when it is done for readers rather than for links. Editors can tell the difference in the first line of a pitch. This is what we look for when submissions arrive at ArticleReserve, and most editors want the same things.
Read the site first
Read five recent articles. Note the length, the tone, how headings are used and what topics are already covered. A pitch that duplicates something published last month tells the editor you did not look.
Pitch an angle, not a topic
“An article about email marketing” is a topic. “What we learned sending the same newsletter at five different times for five weeks” is an angle. Angles get accepted.
Bring something only you have
Results from your own work, a process you developed, interviews, data, photos. Experience is what makes a guest post worth publishing rather than a summary of what already ranks.
Write a bio that works
Two or three sentences in the third person: who you are, what you do, one credential relevant to the article, and one link. Our submission form asks for exactly this, and it is published in the author box under your article.
Follow the guidelines exactly
Word count, formatting, link policy, exclusivity. Not following them is the most common reason for a quick no. Ours are on the submission guidelines page.
Common reasons for rejection
- The article could appear on any site; nothing in it is specific.
- Links to commercial pages that serve the writer, not the reader.
- Unedited AI text.
- Already published elsewhere.
