When you buy an article, you are really buying a set of rights. Two articles can read almost the same and still be worth very different amounts, because one is yours alone and the other is on hundreds of sites.
Exclusive content
The article is written for one buyer and sold once. You can publish it, edit it and put your name on it, and nobody else will have the same text.
- Best for: anything you want to rank in search, and anything that represents your brand.
- Watch for: written confirmation that rights transfer to you, and that the seller will not resell or reuse it.
PLR (private label rights) content
The same article is sold to many buyers, each allowed to edit it and publish it under their own name. It is cheap because it is shared.
- Best for: internal training material, email course drafts, or a starting point you will heavily rewrite.
- Watch for: publishing PLR unedited on a site you want to rank. Search engines see many copies of the same text, and readers may have seen it before.
Licensed or syndicated content
You pay to republish an article that also appears elsewhere, usually with credit to the original source and often with a canonical link pointing back to it.
- Best for: filling a news section, or republishing expert pieces your readers would not otherwise see.
- Watch for: licence terms on time limits, edits and attribution.
